FAQ

Why should I hire a professional photographer?

The number one reason to hire a professional is that you won't have to worry about missing out on being in the moment... and neither will family members or friends. You know you are hiring someone with extensive knowledge, education, practice, and experience... this includes anything from poses and prompts, angles, editing, lighting, and more.

What is a session with you like?

Sessions are relaxed and guided. I’ll give gentle direction while also allowing space for natural interaction, so nothing feels forced or overly posed.

How do I book a session?

It's soo easy! Once you’re ready, you can book directly through my site or reach out through my contact form. A signed contract and retainer officially reserve your date.

When am I considered booked?

Once the contract has been signed, date/location chosen, and your non-refundable retainer is paid, you are considered booked.

How much is the deposit retainer?

A $50.00 USD non-refundable, non-transferrable retainer is required for all sessions (excluding elopement weddings).

Elopement weddings require a $150 USD non-refundable, non-transferrable retainer.

The retainer is applied towards your total investment cost. If you cancel or no show, you will not receive a refund.

Why is my retainer deposit non-refundable?

The retainer deposit is non-refundable because it covers time planning for the session, administration, loss of wages, overhead costs, and other backend items.

How do I pay?

I currently accept most debit/credit cards. Payment will be made digitally when you complete your contract.

When is final payment due?

The final payment is due 1 week before your session date, not including elopement weddings. The final payment for elopement weddings is 2 weeks before your session date. Services will not be rendered if this is not paid in advance.

If booked last minute, payment in full may be due sooner/upon receipt of the invoice.

Why do you charge what you charge?

A photography session is more than the 15 minutes (or however long it may run) you are in front of the lens.

The price comes down to the cost of doing business:

- How much I need to cover overhead, backend, business costs and expenses
- Administrative items, planning, marketing, driving and gas, prep work, insurance, CRM, website host and domain, digital gallery host, editing softwares and apps, camera, lenses, gear, accessories, etc.
- Continuing education
- Uploading, editing, saving, exporting
- Follow up
- and so much more!

I want to get to know you better.... can we meet?

Of course! I am more than happy to set up a Skype or Google Meet with you. Feel free to request one during the planning process.

What is your shooting style?

During my sessions I love to use a mix of prompts, movement, candids, and poses.

I love using a mix of cool, lifestyle-type angles, poses, and candids, with standard, timeless poses and angles.

My final images are typically true to color and both timeless and artistic black & whites. My editing style is non-negotionable.

Where are the sessions held?

Sessions are typically held outdoors in Massachusetts and Rhode Island.

Some sessions will be held indoors at a studio or an indoor location discussed during planning.

What happens if there is inclement weather?

New England is gorgeous, but the weather can be unpredictable! I will work with you to keep an eye on the weather. If needed, we will decide the night before or morning of your shoot if a reschedule is needed and when our rescheduled date will be.

What should I expect?

It is my mission to make you feel as prepared as possible. We will keep open conversation, and I will provide you with Style and/or Session Guides to help walk you through preparing for your shoot and the shoot itself.

What do I wear?

For most of my sessions, I will provide a session guide that includes styling. This will include visuals, tips, tricks, and ideas of things to wear.

I can also help personally style your session.

The final aesthetic of your gallery and getting those Pinterest-worthy photos will depend heavily on your outfit choice(s) to tie it all together.

The session is over, now what?

Once the session is over, I will begin editing your images.

Currently, the turnaround for mini and standard sessions is 2 weeks, elopements weddings are 4 to 6 weeks. Delivery date will be included in your contract.

Next, you will receive a sneak peek or two. These will be found on my social media pages.

Once editing is complete, you will receive an email with access to your digital gallery, as well as some helpful tips and tricks to ensure you are printing and uploading your photos at the highest quality.

Can I have the original, unedited, "RAW" files?

I do not provide any original, unedited, straight-out-of-camera "RAW" files, as they are not representative of the work I deliver.

How long do you store files for?

At this time, I try to store them indefinitely, but I can't guarantee the storage of images once the final gallery is delivered. I recommend that when you receive your gallery, you save and back up your files immediately via your computer, cloud, thumb drive, and/or external hard drive.

Do you offer printing services or albums?

At this time, I offer limited printing services through a third party. This can be completed through your gallery's store when you receive your digital gallery.

Currently, I do not create albums, but you can create your own through the store or another third party,

*Ashlie Dawn Photography is not responsible for print quality. Print quality may vary from retailer to retailer. This includes the image sharpness, color, etc.

*Additionally, image colors and quality can vary screen to screen, printer to printer, etc.

Do you have a studio?

I do not own a studio, but do have access to one when/if needed.

Any perks for being a loyal ADP client?

Yes! My Christmas Tree Farm Minis sell out quickly every year. Past ADP client receive first dibs on timeslot bookings before opening to the public.

Additionally, I run contests and have giveaways specifically for my past clients.

Freebies include free digital images, a free mini session, free full gallery, and more!

What if the kids don’t cooperate?

That’s completely normal.... and expected. I work in a flexible, low-pressure way so kids can move, play, and be themselves. Some of the best images come from those in-between moments.

What if my partner isn’t into photos?

You’re not alone—this can come up often in relationships. I keep sessions easygoing and efficient, and most people end up enjoying the experience more than they expected. I honestly have really cool clients!
